Birth Preparation Support
A gentle guided process to reflect on what you need to feel safe enough to navigate labor and birth.
Birth Preparation Support with Dusk Liney offers a trauma-sensitive space to explore what you need to feel safe enough to enter labour and birth on your own terms.
Whether you’re preparing for your first baby or seeking something different after a previous experience, our session is grounded in deep listening and a commitment to honouring your experience.
Together, we explore what safety looks like for you, clarify your birth preferences, and strengthen your inner resources—so you can approach labour and birth feeling understood, supported, and respected.
The process
Pre-session connection
Prior to the session, we will have a chat about where you are at and what you hope you get out of the Birth Preparation Support. We can do this over a quick phone chat, or via email - depending on what you feel most comfortable with. This will begin to preparing you for whatever the session holds and will assist me to come into the session ready to meet you where you are at.
Birth Preparation Session
The Birth Preparation session is up to 2 hours long, in your home or via zoom. I meet you with gentleness, wherever you are at in the lead up to your birth. Whilst each birth preparation session is unique, it will most likely involve one to three of these areas - birth debrief, exploring birth, birth preferences and communication to caregivers, and/or your inner resource and support:
-
Gently look at the parts of your previous birth that have stayed with you and how that informs what you need this time. This may include:
Sharing your birth experience through gentle guided questions
Reflecting on key themes and how they have impacted you
Looking at how this informs what you need to feel safer as you approach birth again
-
Begin to explore your birth vision across the layers of the stages of labor and the role of your support team to enable this. This may include:
Your vision for your birth - Deepening our understanding of what you imagine and hope for your birth
Exploring your preferences for you labour - Stages of labor, how labor starts, pain relief options, questions to ask your caregiver
Your support team - The role of your birth support(s)
-
Exploring your birth preferences and how you can communicate this to your caregiver. This may include:
Explore your birth preferences - what is most important in your birth
Communications plan for how to communicate to your caregivers - through the different appointments you have and during labor
-
We will listen to your strength and discuss how to bring that into your birth space, individually and within your partnership. This may include:
Explore your current tool kit - Looking at your inner resources in how you manage pressured situations
Create an inner resource kit for birth - Contextualise your inner resources and plan how to use them in the context of birth
Reflect on your partnership - Contextualising your strengths and how to bring them into the birth space.
Voxer Voice Messages
Following your session, I will provide voice message support via Voxer voice messaging app for 2 weeks. This allows space for you to ask any questions the session sparks, share your birth communications document or to bring any emotions that the arise following the session.
HEY THERE
I’m Dusk Liney
She / Her
Personally, I come from a lineage of women who lived their lives with strength, love and joy. Like my mother, I love people and I love life. I see the absolute beauty of everyone around me.
I am a survivor of abuse and I am breaking the cycle of trauma within my family. I am committed to creating safety for myself, my daughter and all women.
My entry into motherhood was challenging and lacking maternal support. So I am committed to being a sister and aunty to women needing that holding.

What Dusk’s doula families are saying
"Inviting a doula into my pregnancy and birth drew out an inner strength and power in me that I didn't even fathom I had."
“She brings comfort and empowerment. She understands the kind of quiet encouragement I wanted. No one could ever explain the stages of labour seasoned with so much love and patience.”
"My doula set me on the path of discovering a deep trust in myself which has seeped out into every aspect of my life."
"My doula helped support me to remember the power is within myself and not in anyone else’s hands!"
"Having a doula is like being held. While I’m holding and caring for my new baby, my doula is holding and caring for me. Nothing compares to that kind of support!"
"Having a doula was like being held by generations of Motherly spirit. A soft and gracious landing place for all of my fears and worries, and a reflection of all the joy and goodness."
